We recognize that caregivers and family members have needs, too. When the patient’s usual caregiver or family member needs a break or much-needed rest or has important matters to attend to, Ameri Hospice will arrange the transfer of the patient to inpatient respite care in a Medicare-approved facility (i.e., nursing home) contracted by Ameri Hospice. We will coordinate all the arrangements with the facility to transfer the patient without hassle for the family members.

The patient can stay up to 5 days each time respite care is requested. Ameri Hospice patients are able to request respite care more than once, but it can only be provided on an occasional basis.

What Should You Know About Respite Services?

Are you a caregiver who needs a short-term break to recharge or handle personal responsibilities? If so, respite care might be the support you’ve been looking for. Respite care is a temporary relief service designed to give family caregivers a break while ensuring their loved one continues to receive professional care in a safe environment. At Ameri Hospice, respite care typically takes place in a Medicare-approved facility for up to five days at a time.

Many caregivers are surprised to learn that needing a break is not only common but completely valid. Constant caregiving—especially for someone with a terminal illness—can lead to physical exhaustion, emotional stress, and even burnout. Respite care offers a chance to rest, attend to other family matters, or simply reset emotionally. If you’re exploring caregiver services in Fort Worth, respite care is an important option to consider for both your well-being and your loved one’s continued comfort.

You don’t need to manage this transition alone. Ameri Hospice handles the coordination, transfer process, and communication with the selected respite care facility, so everything goes smoothly for both the patient and caregiver.

How Respite Services Can Help You

  • Prevent Caregiver Burnout

Constant caregiving can be emotionally and physically demanding. Respite care gives you the time to recharge and focus on your own well-being.

  • Provide Professional Medical Supervision

During respite care, your loved one is cared for in a Medicare-approved facility by trained medical staff who understand the needs of hospice patients.

  • Help You Maintain Balance

Whether it’s work obligations, a family event, or simply time to rest, respite care allows caregivers to maintain a healthy life balance.

  • Ensure Patient Safety and Comfort

You can step away with confidence, knowing your loved one is in a secure, nurturing environment that supports their medical and emotional needs.

  • Support Long-Term Caregiving

Taking short breaks can make a long-term caregiving role more sustainable, helping you to continue providing loving care without becoming overwhelmed.
